The Story Behind the System
We built it for ourselves first.
Before Drive Phase ever ran the Growth Engine for a client, we ran it on ourselves. Same system. Same three components. Same disciplines that now power every engagement — experience, foundation, intelligence.

Origin Story
Drive Phase was the first client of the Growth Engine.
In 2022, Drive Phase looked like a lot of consulting shops: skilled people, scattered tools, and a growing dependency on offshore developers to get work out the door. Output was capped by headcount. Every new client meant a new coordination problem.
Instead of scaling the old way — hiring more, spending more, hoping more — we stopped and asked a harder question: what would it look like if we built the right system first?
The answer became the Growth Engine. We redesigned our own operation around three integrated components: a client experience that converts and retains, a technical foundation that runs without us watching it, and an intelligence component that turns data into decisions. Then we ran it.
The result was roughly 5× the output at a fraction of the prior overhead — with zero reliance on offshore dev.
Why Dogfooding Matters
We only sell what we actually use.
Most agencies sell a methodology they've never personally bet on. We did the opposite. Drive Phase ran the Growth Engine as a live business before we ever pitched it to a client.
That means every friction point in the system — every workflow that sounded good on paper but broke under real conditions — got fixed on us first, not on a paying client.
When Xan walks a client through the three pillars, he's not describing a framework he read about. He's describing the operating system his own companies run on today.
- No black-box recommendations. Every tactic in the Growth Engine is one Xan has run personally.
- Outcomes before deliverables. We measure output velocity, not hours billed or tasks logged.
- Systems over heroics. The goal is a business that runs without you being the bottleneck.

I'm my own first customer. I run four of my own businesses on the exact Growth Engine we sell — owned backends, the AI layer, one command center — and much of it happens from my phone. I don't log into six tools to run a company. I talk to Claude, wired into my own data, and it does the work: checks status, updates records, handles what used to eat an afternoon. Inbound calls and texts get caught by agents I built; outbound follow-up keeps moving whether I'm at a desk or not. So when a new model lands or something breaks, I feel it the same day a client would — because it's running my actual Tuesday, not a slide someone made.
"I built the Growth Engine because I needed it. I sell it because it worked. That sequence matters."

Four real businesses. One system.
The Growth Engine isn't tested in theory. It runs in production across four Xan-owned companies spanning completely different verticals. Each one is a live case study in what the system does and doesn't do.
By the Numbers
What running your own system teaches you.
The System
Three components. One engine.
The Growth Engine isn't a product you buy and install. It's a three-component operating system that runs your business. Every component depends on the others. That's what makes it an engine instead of a toolbox.
- Experience Component — the front-of-house: your site, your conversion paths, and every touchpoint a prospect or client encounters.
- Foundation Component — the infrastructure: automations, integrations, and workflows that run your operation without you in the middle of everything.
- Intelligence Component — the signal: the data, dashboards, and AI capabilities that let you make faster, better decisions with less guesswork.
